How we approach every job

Our methodology

Before anything is agreed, we assess the watch — this is not a formality. The assessment is a genuine examination that determines what the movement needs, what the case and crystal can reasonably receive, and whether the work is worth proceeding with relative to the value and condition of the piece. We document our findings and share them with you in plain terms.

Assessment

The watch is examined fully. We document the movement's performance, condition of the case, crystal, and crown, and identify anything that requires attention or caution.

Proposal & Agreement

We share our findings and recommend a course of work. Any parts or materials are identified. You confirm what you wish to proceed with before we begin.

Work & Return

The work is carried out to the agreed scope. On completion, timing machine results or a written account of the restoration is provided alongside the watch.

Standard Mechanical Service

A dependable service for hand-wound and automatic watches that have been running for some years without attention. The movement is cleaned, re-oiled, and regulated, and the case lightly tidied, so the watch returns to steady, comfortable use. A sensible choice for owners who wish to look after a daily companion.

What is included:

  • Full disassembly and ultrasonic cleaning of all movement components
  • Re-lubrication with grade-appropriate horological oils
  • Regulation to within an acceptable daily rate
  • Case and bracelet clean and light tidy
  • Timing machine results provided on return
  • Post-service regulation warranty

Crystal Replacement & Polishing

A neat service combining the replacement of a worn or damaged crystal with gentle exterior polishing to lift everyday marks. We select a suitable crystal, fit it carefully, and refinish the case to the owner's preferred degree, taking care to keep original lines intact. Well suited to watches that have served faithfully and simply need a refresh.

What is included:

  • Crystal sourced to appropriate specification for the reference
  • Old crystal removed and case prepared for new fitting
  • New crystal fitted with correct gasket where applicable
  • Case polished to owner's preferred degree (brushed, polished, or left)
  • All choices confirmed with owner before work proceeds

Process steps:

  2. 2 Crystal options identified and confirmed with owner
  3. 3 Finish preference confirmed (no polishing without consent)
  4. 4 Crystal fitting and case finishing
  5. 5 Final inspection and return

Service three

Antique Restoration & Conservation

A respectful restoration for antique watches, balancing repair with conservation so that age and authenticity are preserved. The work may include hand-fabricating scarce parts, treating corrosion, conserving original dials, and returning the movement to reliable operation. Each project starts with a careful, unhurried assessment and a written explanation of the options.

  • Corrosion treatment as appropriate
  • Dial conservation with authenticity preserved
  • Hand-fabrication of scarce or unavailable parts where necessary
  • Gradual, supervised timeline suited to delicate work

Professional standards we apply to every job

Secure Individual Storage

Each watch is stored separately in labelled, padded containers throughout its time in our care. No piece shares a tray or risks contact with another.

Objective Performance Testing

We use a timing machine for all movement work. The results are documented and provided to the owner — so performance is measurable, not approximate.

Grade-Correct Lubrication

Every bearing, jewel, and keyless-work component receives lubrication appropriate to its function and material. One oil does not serve all purposes in a precision movement.

No Work Without Agreement

We do not expand the scope of work without contacting the owner first. Every additional item found is communicated; nothing is simply added to the bill.

Owner Privacy Respected

Information about your watch and your contact details are held for service records only and are not disclosed to third parties or used for marketing without your consent.

Post-Service Warranty

Movement services carry a regulation warranty. If the rate departs noticeably from the tested result within the warranty period, we address it without charge.
