Our story

From a single bench to a trusted name in Bangkok

Siam Mongkol began in 2009 with a single watchmaker's bench in a small rented room off Silom Road. The founder, Khun Wichai Suphannarat, had spent the better part of a decade training under an established horological workshop in Chiang Mai before returning to Bangkok with a clear idea of the kind of service he wanted to offer: unhurried, transparent, and respectful of whatever watch came through the door.

The name Siam Mongkol — drawing on the older name for Thailand and a word carrying associations with care and auspiciousness — was chosen to reflect both a sense of place and a commitment to good work. In the early years the workshop focused almost entirely on mechanical servicing, building a steady clientele among collectors and everyday owners who valued clear communication over quick promises.

Over time the work expanded naturally into crystal replacement, exterior finishing, and eventually into antique restoration — the area that now draws some of the most interesting pieces to the bench. Each expansion followed the skill and the demand rather than a plan, and the workshop has remained small by choice, because the quality of the work depends on it remaining so.

Today Siam Mongkol occupies a comfortable space on Ratchadamri Road, well situated for visitors from across Bangkok and accessible to those staying in the Lumphini area. The workshop handles around sixty to eighty pieces a year, a number that keeps the work manageable and the attention on each watch where it belongs.

Our Mission

To give every watch — whether a daily wearer or an heirloom from another century — an assessment and a course of care that is honest, clearly explained, and carried out with skill. We do not take on more work than we can attend to properly, and we do not recommend work that is not warranted.

Our Values

  • Transparency at every step — no surprises in the bill or the outcome
  • Conservation over cosmetic improvement
  • Honest assessment before any commitment to work
  • Quiet competence rather than grand claims
  • Timelines that suit the complexity of the job

How we work

Standards we hold ourselves to

Written Assessment First

Every watch receives a documented assessment before any work is proposed. You receive a written summary of our findings and the options available — there is no obligation to proceed.

Correct Lubricants for the Work

We use horological-grade lubricants selected specifically for each movement type and jewel configuration. The wrong lubricant in the wrong place damages rather than preserves.

Timing Instrument Testing

All serviced movements are tested on a timing machine before and after service. Results are recorded and shared with the owner, so you have an objective measure of the work carried out.

Careful Storage During Work

Watches in our care are stored individually in padded, labelled containers throughout the process. No piece is left in a position where it could be marked, mixed with another, or subjected to unnecessary handling.

Privacy of Your Information

Details about your watch and your contact information are kept for service records only and are never shared. We do not send marketing communications without your consent.

Post-Service Warranty

Standard mechanical services carry a post-service warranty period covering the regulation of the movement. If timekeeping departs noticeably from the tested rate within this period, we will review it without charge.

Our approach in a few words

Watchmaking as a considered practice

A watch is a mechanical object, but it is rarely just that to its owner. It may represent a long-working relationship with a particular model, a gift from someone no longer present, or a piece collected for its place in horological history. The work of maintaining it well carries a corresponding weight, and that weight informs how we approach every job at Siam Mongkol.

We specialise in mechanical watch servicing, which involves the careful disassembly, cleaning, inspection, and reassembly of a movement — along with the re-lubrication and regulation that follow. We also carry out crystal replacement and case finishing for watches that have accumulated the kind of wear that affects their appearance without affecting their function. And we offer antique restoration for pieces that have not been serviced in a long time, or that require parts fabrication to return to working condition.

Our workshop is not large, and we keep it that way. The quality of the work is inseparable from the attention that can be given to each piece, and attention is not something that scales without limit. Owners who bring their watches to Siam Mongkol can expect to know who is working on their piece, what the work involves, and what the outcome is likely to be — before any commitment is made.

A conversation costs nothing

If you have a watch you are considering bringing in, or simply want to ask whether a particular piece falls within our scope of work, we are glad to hear from you.
